Aluminum Windows for a Coastal Hotel in Panama At the beginning of 2026, we received an inquiry from a contractor in Panama who was working on a new hotel project near the coast. The design focused heavily on large glass areas to open up ocean views and bring in natural light — something that looks great on paper, but quickly becomes challenging in a real coastal environment.Besides aesthetics, the client was very clear about three things:1.the system had to handle hurricanes, 2.reduce noise for guests, 3.and come with reliable installation support. What Made This Project Challenge  The project is located in Panama, where the building is exposed to strong coastal winds coming directly from the ocean. Because of this, the aluminum windows and doors were designed with a strong focus on wind resistance. The entire system was engineered to withstand high wind pressure, ensuring that even during severe weather conditions, the doors and windows remain stable, secure, and fully functional without deformation or leakage. Strong winds and potential hurricane impact In order to address the challenges of strong coastal winds and potential hurricane impact, the developer and contractor selected our wind-resistant sliding door series together with our thermal door systems. These solutions were specifically chosen for their ability to withstand high wind pressure while maintaining structural stability and sealing performance. The sliding doors were reinforced to handle large openings without compromising strength, while the thermal door systems provided additional insulation and improved energy efficiency. Together, they ensured that the building remains secure, comfortable, and reliable even under extreme weather conditions. High humidity and salt in the air The project is located in a coastal environment with high humidity and salt-laden air, which can be highly corrosive to building materials over time. To address this, the window and door systems were designed with a moisture-resistant structure, ensuring long-term durability and stability. Special attention was given to sealing performance, drainage design, and surface treatment of the aluminum profiles, allowing the system to effectively resist humidity penetration and minimize the impact of salt corrosion. This ensures that the windows and doors maintain their performance and appearance even in harsh coastal conditions. Our Approach to the Solution We worked closely with the client to configure a system that would hold up over time, not just pass initial requirements. For the frames, we used high-strength aluminum profiles. Aluminum works especially well in coastal areas because it doesn’t rust, and with the right surface treatment, it handles humidity and salt air much better over the long term. For the glass, the client chose double glazing. This helped in two ways:it improved insulation and also made a noticeable difference in reducing outside noise — something that matters a lot in a hotel setting. We also recommended laminated glass in key areas to improve safety and resistance under high wind pressure. Handling Hurricanes and Noise at the Same Time One of the key concerns was hurricane resistance. After receiving the email, our professional sales team quickly got in touch with the client to confirm the specific quantities and technical requirements for the aluminum doors and windows. Following several rounds of communication and quotation adjustments, we finalized the shop drawings and pricing. Production for the client’s aluminum door and window order has now been officially started. A few months , we worked on a residential project located in a coastal area of Florida. The homeowner was building a modern villa with large glass openings, aiming for maximum natural light and ocean views. The project had to meet strict local building codes, especially for hurricane resistance. The client also wanted slim profiles, which often conflict with structural performance. Key Challenges in US Projects (Especially Coastal Areas) In the US market, especially states like Florida and California, aluminum window and door systems are not just about aesthetics. They must comply with performance standards such as: NFRC (thermal performance) ASTM E330 (structural wind load testing) Impact resistance requirements for hurricane zones For this project, the main challenges were: High wind load requirements Large panel sizes Need for impact-resistant glazing Maintaining a minimalist design One thing many developers underestimate is how quickly wind load requirements increase with building height and exposure. Near the coast, pressure ratings can easily exceed standard residential levels. Technical Solution: Balancing Design and Performance To meet both visual and engineering requirements, we proposed a thermal break aluminum system with reinforced profiles. It’s a small compromise visually, but it significantly improves structural stability. And in reality, most clients don’t notice the difference once installed. A Real Issue We Encountered (And How It Was Fixed) During initial testing, one of the large sliding door panels failed the wind pressure test. Not dramatically—but enough to require redesign. The issue wasn’t the aluminum itself.
